Welcome! I'm Kelsey and I'm a freelance editor. I have EFA and ACES editing training, a BA in English, and have worked on numerous indie manuscripts. I focus on helping you keep your voice in your story!

Services

Line Editing

This is a thorough edit that focuses on consistency, grammar, and readability. I also check for continuity and structural errors, frequently repeated words and phrases, correct tense, and style. This edit highlights your strengths and includes suggestions for improvement.

This service is right for you if your story is complete/has had developmental work done, and you're ready to start polishing the story.

Proofreading

This is the final step in the editing process; I'm checking for punctuation, grammar, and spelling errors.

Proofreading does not include comments or editorial feedback.

This service is right for you if your manuscript has gone through multiple rounds of edits and needs a final set of eyes before publication.

"I had the pleasure of working with Kelsey to do line editing and proofreading on my novellas and had a terrific experience throughout. She made the process comfortable through great communication and helpful critiques. She approaches the feedback in a way that is nonjudgmental and knowledgeable, and always honors the author’s final call. She also offered a sample edit before signing the contract for extra assurance. I plan to work with her for my future projects." - J.M.O. Dunaway

"Kelsey is amazing to work with! I hired her for line edits and proofreading for my YA Fantasy novel and her insight was invaluable. There's always a sense of panic that comes with handing your manuscript over to someone for critiques, but I immediately felt at ease with Kelsey. She provided suggestions to phrases that felt off, and helped me clean up any last minute errors so my manuscript was as polished as can be. I will recommend Kelsey to any author in need of a good editor!" - Audrey Steves

"I recommend Kelsey Snook to every author in my life. Call it good karma. Enthusiasm. A desire to help others who have once been both lost and new. I write this with bounding sincerity. Writers are always too close to their manuscript. From last minute tweaks at midnight to breakdowns staring at the computer screen, we know when we need to have another set of eyes (and believe me when I say I had many). It still was not enough. But when I handed over my manuscript, I felt an instant relief. It only took a couple of paragraphs to see the difference—if that—and I want other writers to share the same experience. Do not miss out on an editor who is fantastically well-read, passionate about the craft, and has a natural talent within the book community. To many more books to come." - J.D. Ronan

"Kelsey is a joy to work with. I hired her to proofread two stories featured in my anthology Whispers in the Dark. Kelsey proofread and did light line edits on Inscriptions and Ice Cream and Waffles. As the author of a high fantasy series, it is difficult to separate my depth of knowledge from the worlds I live in, day in and day out, into a string of words that will translate clearly to my reader. Kelsey did a wonderful job pointing out the scenes I needed to clarify and proofing these short stories. The turnaround time was fantastic and Kelsey is very personable. I would definitely recommend hiring her for your project, she's a great asset to have in your corner." - Kalista Neith

The Process

I realize many authors don't look forward to editing, but I encourage open communication throughout the whole process so we stay on the same page and work your manuscript into the version you want to share with readers.

If you're interested in working together, I offer a sample edit of up to 1500 words for free - this is a chance for us to see if we'll be a good fit. If we feel it will be a good partnership, I'll create a contract for you to review before we move forward. If this is a book in the middle of a series, I'll be sure to read the preceding books to understand the big picture.

Remember, it's your book and I'm just here to help - I want you to be comfortable with the work you're putting out! In the end, all edits are suggestions and it's up to you what you do with the feedback.
